5 Critical Steps to Getting Sober

  • Decide you want to get sober. Admit to yourself that you have a problem. This first step may seem obvious to you, but it is most critical because once you accept this truth for yourself, you will then be able clarify an inner agreement with the most important person in your life,…you!
  • Remove all alcohol related products and paraphernalia from your home and workspace. This means that all of the alcohol and anything that reminds you of drinking or supports a lifestyle of drinking must be on the get rid of list. This makes the choice more real. And it also helps removes the fear/alcohol (inter-related) based energy that surrounds your home and potentially your workspace. If you work with alcohol, this part will be exempt, but do not concern yourself with it. I personally quit drinking while many people in my workplace still drank around me all of the time.
  • Let people know, that you have just quit drinking, and that you want to be sober. Firstly, this lets people who would normally expect you to drink, such as friends, co-workers, etc, know that you are not going to drink with them, and those who do not drink will support you. Both parties are capable of helping to hold you accountable.
  • Ask your higher power (if you believe in one) to remove the obstacles in your way, to help you can rise up and get sober. If you don’t believe in one, don’t worry, this program teaches you how to connect to yourself.
  • Make a drastic change for yourself. This part can be very difficult but worth every measure you take. You are the only one who can answer what this may be. If you do believe in a higher power, you can ask him to help show you what it is, if you are having trouble with it. What this does it is rather forces you to make an honest change for yourself, that will help to hold you accountable for what comes next in your sobriety program. You will not regret this choice, but it may feel quite scary for you at first and that’s quite normal. Do not worry, it is here to help you move on with your life.
